Disable Windows Desktop Search and enable Full-Text Searching

Open regedit

Disable WDS in two locations

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Desktop Search\DS
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Desktop Search\DS
Set "ShowStartSearchBand" to 0 in both locations.

Enable Full-Text Searching

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex
Set "FilterFilesWithUnknownExtensions" to DWORD and value of "1".
