Bulk Resize of JPEG Images

by techpilot007 28. June 2010 20:55

Just the other day one of the members of our client support team was faced with the task of resizing many images because the originals were too small to display.  I heard about his task and I was reminded of a program I wrote a couple of years ago for doing just opposite in an effort to save space.  The code was relatively simple and I had incorporated logic to keep the resized image in the same scale as the original.  I figured it wouldn’t be too hard to add a check box for enlarging images and a little more logic.

I know increasing an image size will distort the quality but for business purposes sometimes we need to increase the size a little bit.

Since I never shared images of the original program I figured I’d show some shots of the updated program.

When you click the Resize button it opens a window for you to brose to the Folder where the images are located.  Since I’m not really a developer and because I don’t really care, I did not program it to have a progress bar nor do I plan on adding it.

Goals!

by techpilot007 1. April 2010 18:08

Alright, as one colleague would say, 'It's time for a reboot!'. I need to reboot myself to wake me up and get me cracking on my professional development.  I wrote in the past that I was working on my MCITP and on a self paced training kit for CCNA.  Not much has happened since then.  I mean I picked up the books but only got one or two chapters in to them.  I also told myself that I was going to work on learning more on the Linux side of things.  Yes, I've installed several different distributions but I really didn't know much about it.  I always had to rely on a GUI interface and on Google searches to figure things out, but really I was too afraid to learn the command line.

Well all this procrastination is going to stop.  I started from scratch last night on my Linux learning.  I started off with lesson one on Linux.org. I know I don't need to start at that basic level, but I really want to make sure I don't miss anything.  I had to submit my goals for the year at work just this past Tuesday and in my Development goals I have now listed MCITP and CCENT with deadlines during this year to have some of it done.

I talked with my wife about this briefly and her reply was 'Do what you need to do.'.  I love how understanding she is about it all.  She knows that I'll have to be spending time at home working on these things but she is still ok with it.  Thank you Beautiful!

Once again its been awhile!

by techpilot007 6. March 2010 09:05

I know once again its been awhile since I've posted anything.  I'm sure that there have been things that have happened that I'm forgetting but this is basically a reminder to myself that I need to write about two things for sure and soon, before I forget.  The first is about Windows Server 2008 and Disk Cleanup.  I know it doesn't come installed and that it's a part of the Desktop Experiance but I have a story.  And the other is about the value of removing meta data if you really don't need it on your jpgs.  Thats all for the moment.  When I get some time I'll explain both of them.

I'm still alive!

by techpilot007 14. September 2009 17:07

I know its been a while since I posted anything.  I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm still alive. :)  I've been keeping fairly buisy actually.  My fiance was here on summer break from college so I spent most of my time outside of work with her the past few months.  Now that school has started again she has left to go finish her last semester. (Yeh!!)

But just because she has left doesn't mean that I don't have anything to keep my attention.  At work we are in the process of moving datacenters and setting up new servers.  And in an effort to expand my horizons I've picked up a training kit for MSCIT Professional (Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional).  Really jsut a fancy way of saying that I'm studying to take five exams that cover Windows Server 2008 technology, as well as I've picked up a CCNA training kit (I figure if I am to be a Network Engineer I should get some Cisco training).  Don't get me wrong I know that there are people that get these certs. and they don't know anything about the subjects.  But I happen to be in a posision where I get to practice on our Cisco equipment and now I'm building out servers with Windows 2008 on them so I think I'm looking for training in the right areas for now.  Hopefully soon I'll be able to have another technology post.  (I've got one project that I'm working on now iwth a developer that might be an interesting one to blog about).

Until next time everyone!!

Happy New Year!

by techpilot007 1. January 2009 12:16
Well I have to say that so far this blog has been about as exciting as I thought it would be.  I figured I could wish everyone a Happy New year though.  There have been a few things of interest over the past few months that I've thought about blogging but I never really had any more ambition to actually log on and write about them.  For the past month or so I've been slowly reading articles about clustered computing and have been wanting to attempt on a small scale building my own cluster for none other than the purpose of learning. I also moved into an apartment about a month ago so I've been slowly working on unpacking. (I'll have to admit that my Netflix subscription has been a bit of a distraction to this process.)

So without further interruption let me wish you a Happy New Year!!
